Philadelphia, PA The Battle for
Mindshare: Information Access and Retrieval in the Year 2010
A new information mindset is
being created. The information usage behavior
of future scholars, researchers, librarians and business
mangers, as well as the general public, is being shaped now
by computer-driven technologies such as the Web and a
proliferation of reasonably useful search engines. Student
use of traditional information sources, such as libraries,
printed reference books and scholarly journals, as well as
abstracting and indexing services (A&I) is on the decline.
This trend, combined with the current movement towards
open-access publishing on the Internet, has the potential to
completely transform the information access and retrieval
process in the very near future.
What is the role of A&I in a
world of sophisticated search engines and autonomous agents?
Will the role of libraries and traditional publishers be
diminished? And what will the content, technology, and
business model requirements of the new generation of
information seekers look like in the year 2010?
Attend the 46th NFAIS Annual Conference to hear experts
define both the problems and opportunities shaping the
future of information access and retrieval, to learn how you
can prepare for that future, and to understand the potential
consequences if you do not. The Battle for Mindshare begins
now.
