Training Videos for Library education

 

This page offers links to various training videos for use by libraries and information schools worldwide in the teaching of effective and efficient information access, search and retrieval. These resources have been developed in the interests of that educational effort by the member organizations of the National Federation of Advanced Information Services (  NFAIS™ )

American Psychological Association

  • YouTube Videos - Training videos on all of the major vendor platforms that deliver APA databases. The videos are in playlists by vendor.

British Standards Institution

CABI - CAB Direct

  • Quick Search Screen - This two minute video shows the basics required for performing a simple keyword search. It also introduces the display screen and a full CABI database record.
  • Search Refine - This tutorial will show you how to refine the results with the addition of extra search terms.
  • MyCABDirect - Alerts and RSS Feeds - This tutorial shows you how to set up and use the MyCABDirect feature
  • Multi Term Searching - This tutorial will show you how to build more complex, mulit-term searches and introduces the concept of Boolean Operators to specify the exact relationships between the search terms.
  • Outputting Search Results - Once you have the search results you want, learn how to output the records in the most appropriate format.
  • Search History Screen - The Search History Screen shows you a list of all the searches performed in the current search session. It also allows you to combine the results of different searches and save your search profile to re-run at a later date.
  • Advanced Search Screen - The Advanced Search Screen allows you to build a complex search strategy on multiple search lines. This tutorial also introduces the idea of limiting search terms to specific data fields like the CABI Indexing terms, very useful for improving the quality or relevance of your search results.

  • Calculation of SNIP and SJR - This short video explains how SCImago Journal Rank (SJR) and Source Normalized Impact per Paper (SNIP) are calculated. SJR and SNIP are considering in which context in which a Journal is performing looking at differences in research areas with different citation behaviors.
  • Scientific Author Identifier - This preview search allows anyone to look up a specific author and check their profile for numbers of documents published, numbers of references, received citations and the h-index and more.
